International Workers Memorial Day Two events are taking place in Dundee; The first is the annual City Council/Churches Memorial Lecture on Friday 25th April at 12 noon in the City Chambers. The speaker is STUC Assistant General Secretary, Mary Senior. Free booking via frank.feechan@dundeecity.gov.uk. The second event is on 28th April at 1pm when a small commemoration will take place at the Memorial Tree on Riverside by the fountain behind Discovery Point.
Annual Mayday Social The social is on Friday May 2nd at 7.30pm at the Michelin Social Club. Tickets are £10 from Mike Arnott, Brian Gordon or Bob Macgregor. Music and buffet.
STUC Congress, April 21st - 23rd, Inverness Dundee TUC have motions on Public Data Protection, Lisbon Treaty and the 70th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War. Following the delegation of sacked Texol workers who addressed our last meeting, an Emergency Motion has been submitted to the Congress agenda calling for support for their ongoing struggle.
Naomi Klein Speaking Date Anti Globalisation writer Naomi Klein is speaking at 6pm on May 22nd in the Dundee University New Teaching Block. Tickets are free and can be obtained via the desk at the University Tower Block or through Borders bookshop.
Dundee and the Spanish Civil War Dundee TUC are running a history project on Dundee's participation in the Spanish Civil War. Check our linked history site HERE. We will be hosting the AGM of the International Brigade Memorial Trust (IBMT) on October 11th and have organised a number of complimentary events including an exhibition at the Central Library, archive films at DCA and a social night. We will also rededicate the Dundee International Brigade Memorial. Donations towards these events would be gratefully received, cheques payable to Dundee TUC.
